SINGAPORE, June 3 — Malaysia’s darlings of Synchronised swimming, Katrina Ann Abdul Hadi and Zylane Lee, are on course for a gold medal in the Duet routine at the 28th SEA Games here.
After a brilliant start in their opening performance at the OCBC Aquatic Centre yesterday, Katrina Ann and Zylane were once again in sizzling form to top the leader board in the Free Duet routine preliminary round with a score of 76.3333 points.
The Malaysian duo edged Stephanie Chen-Crystal Yap and Natalie Chen-Debbie Soh, both pairs from the host country, to second and third places with scores of 75.2333 and 72.7333 points respectively.
In yesterday’s preliminary round of the Technical routine, the Malaysian duo accumulated 75.3436 points. Despite leading the pack in the Free routine preliminary round, Katrina Ann said they need to polish up their execution in order to stay on track for the gold medal.
“We made some execution errors, especially synchronisation errors where our timing was not very accurate. It was a new routine where we added in some new difficulties and to synchronise nicely is quite difficult.
“Hopefully for tomorrow’s final, we could nail down our synchronisation errors. We did well today but still we want to come out as the best,” said the 22-year-old Katrina Ann.
Zylane echoed the same on their planning for the final.
“We will not change our routine but we have to practise more on execution to make it perfect. We have to make it perfect. We will try to eliminate all errors,” said Zylane. — Bernama
